Can Exercise Really Help with Anxiety & Depression
Christmas is fast approaching and for most people it’s a fun time of year, filled with parties and celebrations with family and friends. However, for many people this is not the case and it is a time filled with sadness, depression, loneliness, and anxiety.
I think we have all suffered with some form of depression or at least know a close friend or family member that has and its not pretty. I know from my own personal experience of being depressed, it can be a very dark place and the more you isolate yourself the worse it becomes.
So in todays blog, I wanted to talk about how exercise can help relieve some of the symptoms of depression and anxiety in both physical and psychological ways.
✅ Exercise releases feel-good brain chemicals that can ease depression (neurotransmitters, endorphins and endocannabinoids)
✅ It also reduces immune system chemicals that can worsen depression
✅It increases the body temperature, which may also have calming effects.
✅ By meeting new people and feeling part of a group, it can change your mood and give you something to look forward to
✅ By getting in shape, it can also make you feel better about your appearance and improve your confidence
✅ Exercise is a distraction that can get you away from the cycle of negative thoughts that feed anxiety and depression.
Starting any exercise regime, can be daunting so ensure you check with your doctor first to make sure it’s safe for you. He or she may also have helpful advice about getting started and staying motivated.
I have found in my years of doing this, the actual hardest part is just turning up! So do something today that your body and mind will thank you for later down the line.
Thats all for now folks, so go forth and be epic.
